Meet the Board Members

 

Chuck Elgin, Immediate Past President

Chuck is a 1978 Ohio State graduate with a Degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering.  Chuck Grew up in Columbus and attended Ohio State where he met his future wife Sharon at the Ohio State Industrial and Systems Engineering Department.  Chuck and Sharon are both Industrial and Systems Engineering graduates and they have been happily married for 40+ years!   Chuck is retired and lives in Crossville, TN with his wife Sharon. Chuck is active with the Knights of Columbus.
 

Heather Dean, President 

A born and bred Buckeye, Heather graduated from OSU with a BA in Psychology. Before relocating to Charlotte in 2010, she was actively involved with the OSU Alumni Club of Richland County, Ohio. Heather served 8 consecutive terms as the Charlotte Buckeyes' Club President from March 2012- March 2020. Heather stepped up to be President again in 2022.  David She enjoys traveling, yoga, sand volleyball, and all things OSU. Her view of sports can be summed up in two words: GO BUCKS!!

Betsy Schaaf, Vice President
Betsy and her late husband, Glen, are both Ohio State graduates. They lived in Cincinnati for many years, before moving to Charlotte in June of 2005. Betsy currently works part time at CPCC Central Campus, where she teaches reading and math to adults in the Foundational Learning program. Betsy has two children; her daughter, Lauren, is a graduate of Queens University of Charlotte and her son, David, is a graduate of NC State. 
 
 
Ian Kinney, Treasurer
Ian received his MBA from Ohio State University in 1992. He currently works at Bank of America in finance and project management. Before moving to Charlotte in 2015, Ian and his wife, Christine, lived in Columbus for more than 30 years. They are avid hikers and spend many non-football Saturdays exploring the mountains in North Carolina. They have two sons; their oldest is graduate of Purdue University, and their youngest graduated from OSU with a degree in Microbiology in 2020.
 
 
Kelly Hartlage, Secretary and Scholarship Chairperson
Kelly is a 1985 graduate of Ohio State with a Bachelor of Science in Finance. She has lived in Charlotte area since 1999 and is currently employed by General Motors. In addition to being a huge Buckeye fan, Kelly enjoys supporting the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. She enjoys scrapbooking and reading in her free time. Her husband, Jeff, owns NetMetrics, which is a local digital marketing self-owned business.    Kelly has two children; her son, Greg is a graduate of UNC-Charlotte and currently working in Sports Communications for Presbyterian College in Clinton SC and her daughter, Jill, is a graduate of CPCC and currently using her culinary skills at Barrington’s Restaurant in Charlotte.
 
 
David & Suzanne Buck, Special Events/ Community Service Chairpersons
Dave and Suzanne met and began dating in September, 1986 – their first week at Ohio State.   Dave graduated in 1990 with a BS in Marketing and a BA in Economics.  He currently works for Aveva, LLC.  Suzanne graduated in 1990 with a BS in Nursing.    She then earned her Masters in Nursing from Kent State.    Suzanne currently works for Novant Health.   They’ve been in Charlotte for 23 years and have attended Charlotte Buckeye Club events since moving to Charlotte.    Their daughter, Ali, graduated from Virginia Tech and works for Gartner.    Their daughter, Taylor, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and works in Washington, DC for the American Economics Liberty Project.    Their son, Carter, fell in love with Ohio State at a very young age and is currently a junior at Ohio State.   He is majoring in Finance with a minor in Data Analytics and he will intern this summer for PricewaterhouseCoopers.   Dave and Suzanne enjoy travel, sports (especially the Cleveland teams), their church, and all things Ohio State!
 
Amy Twary, Social Media Chairperson

Amy graduated from Ohio State in 1987 with a B.S. degree and moved to Charlotte in 1991. She currently lives in Monroe and is a self-employed life and health insurance agent.  Amy loves to travel, enjoys photography, hiking, and the beach. Amy also supports several local animal rescue groups. She is passionate about all things Buckeye related and loves being able to share the Buckeye spirit in Charlotte with others on the social media platforms.

Gina says she’s a Buckeye in her heart, and Bobcat by choice, BFA 1991.  She moved to Charlotte in 2000, but didn’t find the Charlotte Buckeyes until 2017, after her first game watch she was hooked!  Gina is the international treasury manager for Enpro Industries, and enjoys attending sporting events, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends.  Her son, Clay, is a high senior and after graduation will begin his career in the United States Marine Corps.

Student Representative- Carter Buck
Carter is a third-year Finance major and Business Analytics minor at Ohio State. On campus, he is President of Phi Chi Theta Professional Business Fraternity and is a member of the 25th Honors Cohort, the Fisher College of Business flagship academic program. In his free time, Carter enjoys Cleveland sports, fishing, golfing, and weight lifting. This upcoming summer, Carter will be interning with PricewaterhouseCoopers as a management consultant on their financial transformation team.
